"Blanca in the Light"

Last year I did a large painting of Lilly that I titled "Lilly in the Light". When Blanca died on May 21, 2009 I did a painting as a tribute to her titled "Trinity". After I finished painting it I decided that Blanca should have her own large painting as a companion piece to Lilly's...so, i created "Blanca in the Light". I worked from one of my favorite photos that Michael took of our Blanca. I love the play light on her beautiful face with that ever present tongue that never fit in her mouth. She always had such a lovely spirit of happiness about her. We miss you Boo!

Several years ago i wrote a story about Lilly and Blanca and titled it "Rhyming Phil". Within the story are various situations between the two of them that involves a rhyme of some sort. For this particular painting the rhyme was "It's not so absurd to dress like a bird."
This painting was one of five chosen to become a poster in the 2008 Future of Reading Competition sponsored by the Riverside Community Art Association.

Here is Lilly enjoying a late afternoon meal as the light streams in through our basement doors. The shadows are what caught my eye when I took this series of photos. This one was my favorite so i turned it into a painting. This painting was one of only 47 to make it into California Art Club's "Eternal Light" Exhibit at the Historic Blinn House in Pasadena, CA.
